This very rare species is perfectly distinct from the Meriana, of more humble growth, the flowering stem seldom rising to more than a foot in height, and producing from four to six flowers, which are proportionably longer, more closed, and of a deeper red colour than those of Meriana. Was introduced from the Cape by Capt. Hutchinson, in 1754. Ait. Kew. Is readily increased by offsets, and requires the same treatment as the Anthol. Meriana already figured. Flowers in May and June.
