The original book is not always consistent in its spelling, and especially its use of diacritics for transcribed words. These have been normalized whenever feasible, however, numerous inconsistencies undoubtedly remain. The use of italic letters for retroflex consonants has been changed into underdotted letters where they appear.

All changes made appear in the colophon at the end of the HTML version.

The original book included a complex set of running headers in the outer margin.

The marginal running headers have sometimes been partially omitted in the source if they would obscure a marginal note. In such cases, the missing items in the running headers have been supplied. In the HTML version, the running headers have been placed in the right margin, whereas marginal notes appear in the left margin.

The genealogical diagrams included in this work are included as tables, using borders on table cells to represent the connecting lines. This may not display properly on some reading devices.

Depending on the fonts used, the fragments in Devangari en Arabic script may appear slightly different from the way they appear in the source. For Devanagari script, some fonts will not correctly render all conjuncts and special symbols used in Sanskrit. Arabic fonts vary considerably in the way they join letters, and some Arabic fonts will not render correctly the letters used for Persian and Urdu.

A good Arabic script font is Scheherazade, developed by SIL. This elegant font includes all required characters.

A good looking traditional Devanagari font is Sanskrit 2003, developed by the Omkarananda Ashram. Alternatively, you can use the font Siddhanta, developed by Mihail Bayaryn. Both include the complex conjuncts required for Sanskrit.
