  1 9:2AND after six days Jesus took Peter, and James, and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves alone, and was transfigured before them; 9:3and his garments became shining, extremely white, so that no fuller on the earth could whiten them. 9:4And Elijah appeared to them; with Moses, and they conversed with Jesus. 9:5And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and we will make three tabernacles, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah; 9:6for he knew not what he answered, for they were afraid. 9:7And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came from the cloud, This is my beloved Son; hear him. 9:8And looking round immediately they no longer saw any one but Jesus alone with them. 2 9:9And coming down from the mountain he charged them to tell no man what they had seen, till the Son of man should have risen from the dead. 9:10And they kept the word, inquiring with themselves what the rising from the dead meant. 9:11And they asked him, saying, Why do the scribes say that Elijah must first come? 9:12And he said to them, Elijah comes first, and restores all things; as also it is written of the Son of man, That he shall suffer many things, and be set at naught; 9:13but I tell you, that Elijah has come, and they have done to him what they wished, as it was written of him. 3 9:14And coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes disputing with them. 9:15And immediately all the multitude seeing him, were highly pleased, and ran forward and saluted him. 9:16And he asked, What were you disputing about with them? 9:17And one of the multitude answered him, Teacher, I have brought my son to you, having a dumb spirit; 9:18and wherever it takes him it convulses him, and he foams and grates his teeth, and becomes emaciated. And I spoke to your disciples to cast it out, and they could not. 9:19And he answered and said to them, O faithless and perverse generation! How long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him to me. 9:20And they brought him to him. And seeing him, the spirit immediately affected him with convulsions, and he fell on the ground, and rolled about, foaming. 9:21And he asked his father, How long a time is it since this came upon him? And he said, From a little child; 9:22and it often casts him into fire, and into waters, to destroy him; but if you are able, help us, and have mercy on us. 9:23And Jesus said to him, If you are able? all things are possible to him that believes. 9:24And the father of the little child immediately crying out, said, I believe; help my unbelief. 4 9:25And Jesus seeing that a multitude ran together, rebuked the impure spirit, saying to him, Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him, and enter into him no more. 9:26And crying out and affecting him with many convulsions, he went out. And he was like a dead person, so that many said, He is dead. 9:27But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him up, and he stood up. 9:28And when he went into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could we not cast it out? 9:29And he said to them, This kind can go out by nothing but prayer. 5 9:30And departing thence, he passed through Galilee, and desired that no one should know him, 9:31for he taught his disciples, and said to them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him. And when he is killed, on the third day he shall rise again. 9:32And they understood not the word, and were afraid to ask him. 6 9:33And he came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house, he asked them, What did you dispute about on the way? 9:34And they were silent; for they had disputed with each other on the way as to who was the greatest. 9:35And he sat down and called the twelve, and said to them, If any one wishes to be first, he shall be last of all, and a servant of all. 9:36And taking a little child, he put it in the midst of them, and taking it in his arms, said to them, 9:37Whoever receives one such little child in my name, receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me, but him that sent me. 9:38And John spoke to him, saying, Teacher, we saw some one casting out demons in your name, who follows not us, and we forbade him. 9:39And Jesus said, Forbid him not; for no one will perform a mighty work in my name, and be able lightly to speak evil of me. 9:40For whoever is not against us is for us; 9:41and whoever gives you a cup of water because you are Christ's, truly he shall not lose his reward. 7 9:42And whoever shall offend one of the little ones having faith, it would be better for him if a millstone was put about his neck and he was cast into the sea. 9:43And if your hand offends you, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than having two hands to go away into hell, into the inextinguishable fire. 9:45And if your foot offends you, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into life lame, than having two feet to be cast into hell. 9:47And if your eye offends you, pluck it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell, 9:48where the worm dies not and the fire is not extinguished. 9:49For every man shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 9:50Salt is good; but if the salt has become insipid, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace one with another. |
