There are three parts to this book, each starting with page 1. Footnotes have been moved to the end of each part. Variant spelling and inconsistent hyphenation are retained, a few palpable printing errors have been corrected. To make some tables easier to read on small screens some words have been repeated, for example each occurence of the word “idem” in the key of the plan of the LariboisiÈre Hospital has been replaced by the words it represents. The key for the plan of the LariboisiÈre Hospital was originally handwritten. No changes have been made to this for missing or irregular use of accents or cedillas. The tables of numbers of nurses near the end of the book were originally printed in landscape, with some sideways printing. The columns and rows have been swapped to make these tables easier to read on small screens.
