• 1 C sugar, white or brown
• ¾ C shortening
• 1 egg
• 2 C flour
• 2 t soda
• 1 t salt
• 4 T molasses
• ½ t cinnamon
• ¼ t ginger
• ¼ t cloves

Put ingredients together in the order given. Mix thoroughly. Pinch off pieces of dough the size of a marble. Roll in granulated sugar. Bake at 350°, 12-15 minutes.
