I hadn’t eaten for hours
And all the house doors were shut—
The heat of the sun was oppressive
So I languished in the shade,
Though my appetite was appalling....
Beside there were plenty of sparrows
Ready to eat when I chose to....
But when the sun was gone,
So were the sparrows!
