  Punctuation and spelling were made consistent when a predominant preference was found in this book; otherwise they were not changed. Simple typographical errors were corrected; occasional unbalanced quotation marks retained. The spelling and accent marks of non-English words have not been changed. Ambiguous hyphens at the ends of lines were retained; occurrences of inconsistent hyphenation have not been changed. Illustrations have been moved, when necessary, to fall between paragraphs and outside of quoted text. In some cases, this places them on different pages than the ones given in the Table of Illustrations. In versions of this eBook that support “links”, the page numbers in that table link to the correct illustrations.
