SINAPINE TISSUE, | Cooper’s Sinapine tissue trade mark TRADE MARK | MUSTARD PAPER. |
The new Mustard Poultice, recommended by the Faculty.
A most efficacious and convenient substitute for Mustard Poultice, possessing many advantages both in simplicity of application and in economy of time. In efforts are immediate, and equally distributed wherever the tissue may be applied; it can be removed without the least inconvenience either to the patient or the nurse.
EQUALLY SUITABLE FOR INFANTS AS WELL AS ADULTS.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE.
Well wet the part affected with lukewarm water, and apply as much Tissue as may be required, covering it with spongio-piline, or flannel, made wet with hot water. For Children, it should remain on from two to five minutes; for Adults, from five to fifteen minutes.
The Tissue is easily removed by moistening it with lukewarm water.
MEDICAL TESTIMONIALS.
Extract from the “Social Science Review,” edited by Benjamin W. Richardson, Esq. M.A., M.D., F.R.C.P., Senior Physician to the Royal Infirmary for Diseases of the Chest.
“Cooper’s Sinapine Tissue, Mustard Paper.—This is a thin paper charged with mustard, and forming a substitute for a mustard poultice. We have tried the Tissue practically, and find it answers all the objects of the mustard poultice, with the advantages of being cleanly and easy in application, and always ready. It is a great improvement.”
From Edward Ellis, Esq., M.D. Physician to the Samaritan Free Hospital; late Physician to the North London Hospital for Consumption.
118, Warwick Street, Belgravia, S. W., January 8th, 1866.
“Sir.—Since I became acquainted with your Sinapine Tissue, I have always recommended it in place of the ordinary Mustard Poultice, than which, in many cases, nothing can be more inconvenient of application; whereas the Tissue is light, cleanly, certain, and uniform in its action, and very easy to apply. The rapidity with which it produces the necessary effect a also a valuable quality. Altogether it is, in my opinion, a very useful invention.”
To Mr. A. Cooper.
EDWARD ELLIS, M.D.
From George Down, Esq., M.D., M.R.I.
To Mr. Albert Cooper,
Kensington, February 20th, 1865.
I have for some time advised the use of your Sinapine Tissue in lieu of Mustard Poultices, and have amply observed its effect. It has given great satisfaction, and certainly possesses many advantages, namely, readiness of application, cleanliness, lightness, and a uniform diffusion of stimulation. Where there may be necessity to retain heat upon the part, a piece of spongio-piline, moistened with hot water and applied over the Tissue, answers admirably.
GEORGE DOWN, M.D. M.R.I.
Extract from Dr. Spencer Thomson’s “Dictionary of Medicine.”
“Sinapine Tissue, or Mustard Paper.—In this article we have a most convenient, elegant, and efficient addition to our means of treatment. The Mustard Paper, made by Mr. Cooper, of Abingdon Terrace, Kensington, and introduced by him to the notice of Profession, acts very quickly and energetically, in the same way as a Mustard Poultice, without the disagreeables attendant upon that clammy and uncomfortable application, and it seems to leave less marks afterwards. From its energetic action, the time of application is necessarily the shorter than when the old form of Mustard Poultice is used.”

Patent Self-Protecting
WATCH PENDANT,
WATCH PENDANT,
BY
GEO. SNOWBALL,
18, SPRING STREET,
PADDINGTON, W.
The intention of the Inventor is to give to the owners of valuable watches the security and confidence hitherto not enjoyed; as it is unhappily too well-known that the wearer of so useful an article as a watch is always in danger of having it wrenched from him. In many instances, gentlemen have discontinued to display their watch guards for fear of losing the watch attached to it, therefore being under the necessity of putting away a useful and elegant part of dress.
Watches made with the above improvement are keyless; the Watch being wound and the hands set to the time, and the Watch itself protected by this novel invention. The pendant being a universal joint, cannot be wrenched off.
The Self-protecting Pendant can be fixed to any Watch for a small cost.
The invention has been highly approved of by a number of scientific gentlemen.
A MAGISTRATE’S OPINION.
“The invention is an excellent one—the best of the kind that I have seen, as it prevents pick-pockets from wrenching the watch from the guard; and I consider it of great value in its tendency to lessen crime: the ease with which a watch can be wrenched from the guard by the bow, is the cause of Watch stealing being practised to so great an extent.”

DEFENCE AGAINST FIRE.
Internal System of
DEFENCE AGAINST FIRE.
(1.) THE FIRE WATCH.
Taylor’s Patent Fire-Watch
Is a simple apparatus, which will infallibly detect an incipient fire, and give prompt warning in the apartment where the fire is breaking out, and in others, however remote, by ringing a bell or bells—either in the budding or outside it. It is simple and safe; introduces no dangerous material; never wears out; and consumes nothing whatever. When once fixed it will last a life-time, if not wilfully or carelessly injured. There is no doubt that ultimately it will be as common at sea as the compass, and on land as the clock.
Price of the portable Instrument complete, with Bell, from 25s. to 50s.,
according to style and finish.
Scott’s Tubular Fire-Watch, an improvement upon Taylor’s can be
applied to any dwelling house, warehouse, factory, shop, or ship, by estimate.
(2.) THE EXTINGUISHER.
Phillip’s Patent Extinguisher
Is the most effective self-acting Fire-Engine in existence. It will put out any fire that is confined to one apartment instantaneously; and may be used without difficulty, even by a boy or girl. It costs nothing to charge it; is a good garden Engine; an excellent window-cleaner; and in all respects thoroughly sound and reliable.
Price from £3 to £5 each, according to size and finish.
(3) THE ESCAPE.
Scott’s Family Fire Escape
Is capable of being applied to any window from the inside, and will carry a family, in perfect ease and safety, from the highest story, in a few minutes. It is useful also for cleaning windows, and is an excellent lift for getting furniture and other goods into the house.
Price complete, £10.
We have also small Escapes for a man alone, at lower prices. But the Family Fire-Escape is applicable to almost every imaginable case, and may be fully depended upon.
Few fires can become serious on premises where these appliances are used.
